Browlifts in Jacksonville, Florida

by Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery

Browlift Surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure offered by Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery, Jacksonville Plastic Surgery Centers. The Browlift procedure is a surgical procedure used to improve your appearance. The procedure tightens the brow skin and elevates the brow. The degree of improvement varies from individual to individual, and is influenced by the physical traits of the patient’s skin, the structure of the brow, and the particular procedure (see below) selected by the surgeon based on the desired result and the patient.

We have prepared this introduction to the Browlift Surgery procedure to give you an idea of what the procedure involves and how you can prepare. However the details of your particular surgery will be discussed with you in detail by your surgeon.

Browlift Techniques used by the Surgeons at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery

The Full Coronal Technique:

The coronal browlift has been in use the longest. Using the coronal technique, the surgeon makes an incision over the head, from one ear to the other, behind the hairline. This allows the surgeon to move and alter the muscles that cause lines on the forehead. The greatest benefit to this type of browlift surgery is that the results are long lasting. However the procedure raises the hairline, which in some cases may not be acceptable to patients who already have a high forehead or who have or expect to have a receding hairline, as the scar from this type of procedure may someday become visible as hair recedes.
The Mid-Scalp Technique

Candidates for browlifts who are bald or have thinning hair often find the Mid-Scalp Technique to be the most suitable browlift procedure. This procedure calls for a mid-scalp incision that follows the natural appearance of your skull bones and is less noticeable.
The skin of the forehead is then carefully lifted so that the muscles of the forehead can be altered or released. This procedure also allows the the eyebrows to be elevated.

Endoscopic Browlift Surgery

Endoscopic Browlift Surgery presents the greatest advantage to patients seeking browlift surgery with as little scaring as possible. Your surgeon will use small incisions to perform this surgery.

Endoscopic browlift surgery has other advantages in that nerve damage is less likely because of the smaller incisions, and there also tends to be less bleeding, bruising and swelling with this approach. As a result, patients who receive endoscopic browlift surgery rather than a form of “open” surgery also tend to recover sooner.

Temporal or lateral browlift:

Temporal or Lateral Browlift Surgery is an effective option of patients interested in lifting the outer corners of the brow. While this procedure does not address the center area of the brow it can have a positive impact on reducing wrinkles at the corners of the eyes commonly referred to as crow’s feet. In this procedure, small incisions are made within the hair-bearing areas at the temples, excess skin is removed which then lifts the outer corners of the brow.

Preparing for Browlift Surgery

Your doctor will carefully advise you on how to prepare for surgery and it is important to follow your pre-operative instructions to avoid complications during and after surgery. The following information will most likely be discussed and can give you an idea of what will be involved in preparing for browlift surgery:

  • It is important that you not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications prior to surgery.
  • If you smoke, quit smoking at least two weeks before your surgery, and plan on not smoking during your recovery. Smoking greatly increases the risk of complications and slows the healing process.
  • Make arrangements to be driven to surgery and home after your surgery.
  • It is a good idea to arrange for someone to care for you the first 24-72 hours after surgery.
  • Fill all prescriptions before surgery.
  • Set up your recovery area ahead of time. You’ll want to have plenty of pillows, and easy access to entertainment while you recover.
  • Prepare Ice packs. Frozen veggies or fruit work well in reducing post-operative swelling.
  • And follow your physician’s directions carefully regarding medications, eating & drinking after surgery.

What to expect after Browlift Surgery:

In the area of your surgery you should expect some bruising and swelling for the first few weeks. This is normal. You should also expect some tightness as your healing begins. Your sutures will be removed within a seven to ten days after surgery. It is also common for you to temporarily loose some feeling or sensation in the areas of your surgery. This is also normal. Pain from browlift surgery should be moderate and can be managed with prescribed medications from your surgeon. Severe pain should be reported immediately.

Everyone recovers from surgery differently, but you should be up and moving around the day after your surgery as you begin the recovery process. Patients should not shower until your dressings are removed.

During the recovery process it is important to keep your head elevated for the first several days to reduce swelling and promote healing. Swelling and any discomfort can be reduced by carefully applying a cold compress. Swelling and tenderness may cause the use of contact lenses to be difficult. However you may use them as soon as you can comfortably insert and remove them.

Also during the first week of recovery, you should plan on resting, and getting a good start on recovery. You should plan to be out of work and avoiding regular day to day activities for the first week after surgery. For the first month after your surgery, your surgeon will typically advise you to avoid strenuous and high impact activities, and to avoid saunas as steam can delay healing.

After the first few weeks of recovery and over the next several months after your surgery, scaring will fade and you will become very comfortable with the results of your browlift surgery.
