MicroLaserPeel™ Procedure is the perfect step
between Microdermabrasion and Full Skin Resurfacing

micropeelprofiledescptnThe MicroLaserPeel™ procedure was designed for those wanting more than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels, and have little time for a prolonged healing process. We are able to treat skin conditions such as wrinkles, scars, acne scars, laxity, keratoses, and pigmentary problems with a MicroLaserPeel. Although microdermabrasion has recently become a very popular procedure for a many Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons, but when compared, Microdermabrasion only removes the patient’s stratum corneum (dead and dying cells) at 10 microns deep.

The MicroLaserPeel is a partial epidermal peel 20-50 microns deep. Because this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step for patients seeking results between microdermabrasion and full skin resurfacing. Typically, the procedure is repeated 2-4 times, spaced 6-8 weeks apart; but many peels may be done to achieve the desired result. Healing takes 3-4 days.

The procedure can be performed on a Thursday or Friday, so the patient can return to work the following Monday. Symptoms immediately following a MicroLaserPeel resemble a sunburn, with minor sloughing on the second day. Redness will begin to fade by the third day, and can easily be covered by makeup on the fourth day.

Pain is generally minimal and can be addressed if necessary with over-the-counter pain reliever.

Patients experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin, with a significant, immediate change in skin texture and tightness when compared to microdermabrasion.

microprocedureMicroLaserPeel™ FAQ

Q. What is the MicroLaserPeel?

A. It is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses,or pigmentation problems.

Q. Who should consider a MicroLaserPeel?

A. Any person who is interested in pursuing a more aggressive approach to a smoother, tighter appearance and that is not interested in the extended recovery time of a full chemical peel.

Q. How is the MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion?

A. Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Recovery time is generally a few hours and patients will generally only experience minor redness of the skin after treatment.

The MicroLaserPeel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20-50 microns). Recovery times are usually three to four days with the patient experiencing tenderness similar to a sunburn.

Q. How often does a MicroLaserPeel need to be done?

A. A patient will generally enjoy the results of a microlaserpeel for between six to twelve months. However, additional procedures can be performed as required. Often a regimented program of three to four treatments offers extended results. We will of course recommend an appropriate treatment program for you based on many factors.

Q. What can the patient expect?

A. Smoother, healthier more vibrant skin. You will notice a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness when compared to microdermabrasion.

Q. What type anesthesia is used?

A. A topical anesthetic such as Ela-max, Emla or Betacaine Plus is applied to the treatment area thirty to forty five minutes before the procedure.

Q. Will it be necessary for patients to wear any type dressing or bandages after the procedure?

A. No. Your surgeon will prescribe an ointment such as Aquafore or Vaseline which will create a barrier to keep the air away from your skin while you grow new epithelium. This is typically used for one to two days immediately following your procedure.

Q. How long is the healing process?

A. The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take two to four days. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. The only side effect of a microlaserpeel is that the area treated will experience that of a sunburn. You may also experience minor sloughing and itchiness the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade. By day three the patient should experience only a slight redness.
