So, what exactly is a micro peel?

Micropeels are acidic chemical peels that are formulated to target certain skin types as well as specific imperfections. There are different types of micro peels to choose from depending on your skin type, which your aesthetician will determine.

What does a micro peel do for my skin?

This is a commonly asked question. Different peels have different blends of acids that target certain flaws in the skin. For example, the micro peel sensitive skin solution by SkinCeuticals is made with niacin, lactic acid, and usnic acid. When applied topically, Niacin (vitamin B3) promotes healthy skin by helping to reduce sun damage or discoloration. It also aids in increasing blood circulation. Lactic acid works in conjunction with niacin to break up hyperpigmentation and exfoliate and retexturize the surface of your complexion. Usnic acid is used on this skin for its antibacterial properties. This peel is mild enough for all skin types. This would be a great first-time peel!

Other formulations contain higher concentrations of salicylic acid (also known as beta-hydroxy acid) and glycolic acid. Salicylic acid helps to refine pores, reduce the appearance of acne and also helps with regulating oil production. Glycolic acid helps to smooth rough texture and even out the tone of the skin. This is considered to be a clinical-grade peel and would be great for oily acne-prone skin.  A peel offering 30% glycolic acid (with a pH of at least 1.6) is considered to be a medium-depth exfoliation and is intended to reduce the appearance of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and dullness. This is a clinical-grade peel and would be great for normal to dry, aging skin.

What does it feel like to have the micro peel treatment?

Clients usually feel a tingly itching sensation for 3-5 minutes. The peel is then neutralized with cold water and soft gauze. Most everyone finds the temporary discomfort well worth the terrific results!

What should I expect after the micro peel?

You should start to “flake” 2-3 days after the micro peel treatment, and this will last about 2-3 days. The amount of flaking will depend upon the peel you and your aesthetician decide is best for your skin. You can still wear makeup the day of and the days after your peel.
