Restylane Overview

What Is Restylane?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance already present in the human body. Restylane is a dermal filler used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA™ (non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid). NASHA is biodegradable and fully biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. At Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer our patients the highest quality of treatment to help them achieve their cosmetic goals.

What Restylane Can Address

  • Lines, wrinkles, and folds of the face (Restylane, Restylane-L, Lyft, Refyne, Defyne)
  • Dull or thin lips (Restylane, Restylane-L, Silk, Kysse)
  • Sunken or hollow cheeks (Lyft, Restylane-L)
  • Lines and wrinkles around the mouth (Restylane Silk)
  • Deep smile lines (Refyne, Defyne)
  • Sunken or hollow areas of the face (Lyft)

The Science of Restylane

When Restylane is injected into the skin, the hyaluronic acid in it is introduced to your body’s tissues and works with your own natural hyaluronic acid, binding to water. This process provides volume by filling the skin from underneath, smoothing the skin, and hiding wrinkles.

Patient Testimonial

“Amy Kadlubowski. That’s the only name you need to know if you want Botox or fillers. It really is a form of art, and to be able to look like you were just born like this versus having people gawk about ‘Oooooo, she totally had work done’ is awesome. I not only look great after seeing Amy, but she does my injections so perfectly my own mother just thinks I’m aging backwards! She’s just that good. Stop reading this and go schedule an appointment already!”

Restylane Treatment Details

During your appointment, the areas of the injection sites will be marked and thoroughly cleaned prior to the treatment. With the comfort of local anesthesia, the Restylane filler will be injected into the skin using a cannula where added volume is desired. At Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery, we use a cannula instead of a needle to administer Restylane. The benefits of using a cannula instead include better precision and control, less swelling and bruising, and fewer injections needed. After each injection, light pressure and a cooling ointment are applied. Treatment time is typically 15-30 minutes.

Recovery and Results

Other than feeling a tingling sensation and some visible redness in the areas of the injections, there are usually no other side effects after a Restylane treatment. Most patients are able to return to work with no downtime.

The results following a Restylane injection will be seen immediately and can last up to a full year. Patients are generally thrilled with the fast-acting, visible results that the injections provide.

Is Restylane good for lip enhancement?

Restylane is one of the more popular dermal fillers used to add volume to the lips. Restylane Kysse, especially, is excellent for the lips because it adds volume and definition to the lips and the lip border. Patients must be 21 years of age to receive this injection. Lip enhancement results using Restylane typically last up to six months.

What is the best area for Restylane?

A Restylane injection replaces lost volume on the face and can be used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles that are most commonly found from the nose to the mouth. These are known as “nasolabial folds” and “laugh lines”. The injection is also commonly used around the corners of the mouth that extend downward (“marionette lines”).

How often should I treat myself?

Most results will last a full year; however, some patients may choose to return between 5-9 months for a follow-up injection, which is safe to have at that time. Our office can set you up on a treatment regime so that the results remain optimal throughout the weeks and months following each session.

What alternative fillers are there?

While Restylane offers great benefits for patients seeking skin rejuvenation, there are other injectable fillers that may be considered as well. Some of these are comprised of materials such as collagen, polylactic acid, and calcium hydroxyapatite. During your consultation, we will discuss the various fillers that are available today and work with you to understand your aesthetic goals so that the best filler choice can be made.

Can Restylane be used under the eyes?

Yes, Restylane is commonly used to address under-eye hollows and dark circles by adding volume and reducing shadows. Restylane-L and Restylane Silk are popular choices for this delicate area, providing subtle and natural-looking results.

How long does a Restylane treatment session take?

A typical Restylane treatment session lasts about 30 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. This makes it a convenient option for those seeking quick, effective results with minimal downtime.

Are there any side effects with Restylane?

Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within a few days. Our specialists will provide detailed aftercare instructions to minimize discomfort and ensure optimal healing.

Can Restylane results be reversed?

Yes, Restylane results can be reversed using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down hyaluronic acid. This is a safe and effective option if adjustments are needed or if you wish to dissolve the filler entirely.

Is Restylane suitable for first-time filler patients?

Restylane is an excellent choice for first-time filler patients due to its natural composition and versatile applications. Our team will guide you through the process and create a personalized treatment plan to ensure you feel comfortable and achieve your desired results.
