Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that removes the outermost layer of damaged skin to reveal the underlying smoother, firmer skin.
What Happens During Microdermabrasion?
Before the microdermabrasion procedure, your aesthetician will ask about any skin conditions you may have (such as acne, eczema, dermatitis, or inflamed rosacea) and any topicals that may make your skin sensitive (such as retinol or other exfoliants). Your aesthetician will also ensure that you have no open wounds or sores that could be irritated or infected by the microdermabrasion treatment. Once your face has been cleansed and prepared, the microdermabrasion treatment will start. Your aesthetician will carefully use the microdermabrasion instrument to polish your skin while suctioning away the dead skin cells. (You may see your dead skin peeling and falling away during the procedure.) Microdermabrasion can take from 30-60 minutes to complete.
