Understanding the Procedure
After undergoing breast augmentation to improve the size and contour of the breasts, a few women may decide to have them removed for a variety of reasons. During a breast implant removal in Jacksonville, the implants are removed, and scar tissue might also need to be eliminated. Scar tissue is not uncommon after breast augmentation and will need to be removed if it is affecting the form of the breasts or causing discomfort.
What is Breast Implant Removal?
Implant removal surgery can be utilized to correct a range of issues you may have after breast augmentation, such as scar tissue (capsular contracture), implant malfunction, and unhappiness with the breast implants. Sometimes, women might simply prefer their original breasts and want to restore their normal appearance. Regardless of the reason, breast implant removal can work to counteract the results of breast augmentation and when coupled with a breast lift, may restore a natural, desirable aesthetic look.
Restore Your Natural Look
Lots of factors could make you unhappy with your current breast implants. Whether they’re the wrong texture, shape, or size, our specialists at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery will help you achieve the look you desire with breast implant removal. Am I a Candidate for Breast Implant Removal?
If you’re in the Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach, or Ponte Vedra Beach, FL area and you’re considering breast implant removal, you may be wondering if you’re a good candidate. Prior to your procedure, one of our leading surgeons will discuss with you your aspired look for your breasts and how to achieve it.
The best patients for this procedure are women dealing with:
- Breast implant rupture, leakage, or deflation
- Breast implant malposition or displacement
- Capsular contracture resulting in pain in the breast and/or distortion of the breast
- Visible or palpable rippling, folding, or wrinkling of the implant(s)
- Breast asymmetry due to implants
- Unsightly or widened scars due to implants
- Nipple or areola enlargement, distortion, asymmetry, or irregularity due to implants
- The desire to change the size, type, or texture of their breast implant
- Breast implant illness or breast implant-associated ALCL
- Breast implants that are over ten years old
The Breast Implant Removal Procedure
When breast implant removal surgery is performed, the incision is made either around the nipple or beneath the breast. Your surgeon may also remove scar tissue that might have developed around the implant. Your surgeon will remove or replace the implant, and will then close the skin with sutures and dress the chest with surgical bandages.
“I had my breast done in January with Dr. Hickman and she was amazing! She took her time with any questions during the consult, making sure I was completely informed and comfortable. Her work is amazing, I love the outcome.””

What is Recovery Like After Breast Implant Removal/Exchange?
The recovery time for breast implant removal in Jacksonville will vary for each patient, depending upon the reconstruction required after surgery. Your doctor will provide post-operative instructions and might also recommend additional procedures to help reduce scarring. For the first couple of weeks, you will experience swelling and bruising, and you must restrict strenuous exercise until otherwise permitted. However, we encourage you to stand and gradually move around because this will help with blood flow. Optimal results can typically be seen approximately 4-6 months following the operation.
What Procedures Can Be Combined With Breast Implant Removal/Exchange?
After the breast implants have been removed, your surgeon may perform a breast lift based on the size of the former implants, as well as how much the skin has stretched. A breast lift can help get rid of excess or sagging skin, which could remain after implant removal. If you wish to return to your original breast size, implant removal surgery and a breast lift may create amazing results to get back the original look and feel of your breasts. There are also several choices to replace volume following implant removal to enhance the shape of your breasts, including a fat transfer.

Breast Implant Removal Reviews
Liposuction and unilateral labiaplasty. - I have decided to have liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, bra area, and outer thighs. I actually decided to add this procedure to my original decision to have a labiaplasty. One side of my inner labia has always been slightly larger than the other. This constantly bothers me and I have finally decided to do something about it. I also have a general dislike of my stomach. So I decided while I’m under for the labia plasty I might as well go ahead and have my problem areas taken care of as well. I decided to go with Dr Sternberg, as he did my breast implant exchange and lift. I love my breasts and trust he will do amazing with the rest of my body as well. I will update with before pictures soon.
Breast Augmentation with Capsulorrhaphy - 12/26/19 I had a breast implant exchange with Capsulorrhaphy from over the muscle saline to under the muscle silicone. Recovery was much easier than my first breast augmentation. However, since my first check up, my right boob has looked great and is dropping in nicely...BUT my left boob is still high and tight. Should I be worried or is this normal? Is there any way to speed up the “drop and fluff” process for my left breast?

But overall I think it is going well. My friend came over and stayed with me the first night. So I had my husband here and my friend here 24/7 for about two days, Helping me with anything I needed. Lots of swelling, and bruising. But not the worst thing I have been through. I had a weird sensation in my leg and my Dr thought it may be a dvt forming, so I did go to the emergency room, and everything was fine. They believed the sensation in my leg was from the garment I have to wear. I am super swollen, but even with the swelling I can see a difference already. I cannot wait to see the final results. Attached are pics from the day before and then today. Updated on 1 May 2018:Went today for my 1 week post op appointment. Everything is going perfectly and Dr Sternberg said everything looks great. Still have some bruising and swelling as anticipated, but I am feeling better every day. My body shape is looking so perfect. My labiaplasty has come out amazing. I figured it would be somewhat symmetrical, but it is exactly the same. Amazing! Couldn’t be happier with his quality of work. He is an artist. And I would say no other plastic surgeon rivals him! He’s great.
