Rhinoplasty in Jacksonville, FL

Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed for patients seeking to improve the appearance of their nose as it is a predominant feature of the face. Patients elect to have nose surgery for many reasons. In some cases, cosmetic alteration of the nose is performed to alter one’s appearance. In other cases, nose surgery is needed to improve the airways or nostrils of the nose for improved breathing. And still others require nose surgery after accidents. Whatever your reason for considering nose surgery, it’s our goal to help you learn more about this procedure and how it can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

If you’re in the Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach, or Ponte Vedra Beach, FL area and you’re considering a rhinoplasty, you may be wondering if you’re a good candidate. The best patients for rhinoplasty are those who:

  • Are unhappy with the appearance of their nose
  • Understand what a rhinoplasty can accomplish
  • Are non-smokers in overall good health
  • Have realistic expectations for the procedure
  • Fully understand the surgery, risks, recovery, and what to expect

What are the Rhinoplasty Surgical Techniques?

Many surgeons prefer the open rhinoplasty approach during nose surgery because they can gain a better view and better access to the inside of the nose. The incision using this approach is made on the skin between the nostrils or under the nose near the nostrils. Once the incision is made, the skin is moved back to allow access to the internal structures. The incision lines, which heal nicely leaving scars barely visible, are fairly small and usually measure between 2-3 mm.

The closed rhinoplasty technique is used on noses that have features that are easily corrected. It is commonly used when the tip of the nose has good shape and is not too long, too wide, over, or under-projected.

The incision during this approach is not visible after surgery because it is made on the inside of the nose.

What is Rhinoplasty? - Dr. Hancock Explains

“All of my friends and family compliment on how natural and beautiful my nose looks! Dr. Burk did a phenomenal job. The recovery was not bad at all! Besides the mild annoyance of congestion. I had no bruising at all. Dr. Burk was super delicate during the procedure. Love the results! I would definitely recommend if you’re interested in cosmetic surgery to do your research. Look at your doctor’s resume. This is your face. You want a professional, experienced, and skilled doctor.”

Rhinoplasty in Jacksonville is considered an outpatient procedure and is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. It typically takes around 1-3 hours to complete. We only use board-certified anesthesiologists, who review all patient records before surgery to ensure optimal care day of surgery.

Results

Once the bandages and splint are removed, the nose will look normal, but it may take longer for the bruising to subside completely. It can take up to a full year for the nose to gain its final contour and softness. You will have your first post-op follow-up visit on days 2-3, then at one week, then three weeks, six weeks, three months, and six months.

Recovery

After surgery, patients will wear a nose splint and will experience bruising and swelling around the nose and eyes. Recovery time is 7-14 days, depending on the depth of surgery.

Noses that are too large, too wide, or have a specific deformity may only be able to be enhanced through nose surgery. However, the look of some noses may be able to be enhanced using an injectable filler such as collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, or fat taken from another part of the body.

“Injection rhinoplasty” (liquid rhinoplasty) may be an option before resorting to surgery. This is an in-office procedure that can help to soften and camouflage a bump, alter the tip of the nose, and smooth out irregularities. This is a good option for patients who want less downtime than a surgical procedure.

I love this place it has a very very talented team of doctors. Plus you are made comfortable once you enter the door. It has a beautiful Mediterranean aesthetic setting inside and the doctors and team are very very good at their profession. The coolest thing is for whatever you want done there is a specific Doctor Who specializes in a specific area. Rhinoplasty to Breast Implants. They really do have it all here. (Random but after they perfectly adjusted my face (in which the results I am so happy with) I also wanted to adjust my living room to match the inside of their building lol)

I recently had a rhinoplasty surgery with Dr Ellen Hancock, and I must say I am so SHOOK with how much I love it. I was very worried in the beginning because, you know, it’s your face. The results are so amazing, I 10/10 recommend doing it if you’re thinking about it!!! I had my rhinoplasty on a Thursday, cast removal on the following Wednesday, swelling was minimal for me but very manageable. I was rarely in any pain. Thank Dr Hancock!!!

I was very impressed with the staff at PVPS. Everyone was very friendly and efficient. I had a facelift performed by Dr. Bates. I have been so happy with my results. Dr. Bates listened to my concerns and offered his professional opinion. My results were so natural but made such a difference. I feel the results were exactly what I wanted to achieve. I would highly recommend Dr. Bates if you are considering a facelift. My experience with PVPS was wonderful!

Are surgery fears normal?

Yes — and this fear is always elevated when surgery involves the face. However, more than 350,000 people in the U.S. undergo rhinoplasty each year, making the rhinoplasty one of the most common cosmetic surgeries. One way to help calm your fears is to make sure you find a reputable and skilled surgeon that has extensive experience with nose surgery.

Will my nose be broken?

About half of rhinoplasty patients will benefit from a manual nasal fracture during surgery. This planned break allows access to perform certain functions during surgery, such as narrowing the width of the nose or correcting an asymmetrical nose. This is a common practice and heals within just a few weeks following surgery.

What is a nasal pack?

Nasal packing is the insertion of gauze and/or cotton packs into the nasal chamber after surgery. These are used to control bleeding, but are not necessary 100% of the time. They are generally used if the surgery includes the septum.

What should I expect during my initial consultation for rhinoplasty?

During your initial consultation for rhinoplasty, your surgeon will assess your nasal structure and discuss your aesthetic goals and any functional concerns. You will likely review before-and-after photos of previous patients and discuss the potential techniques to achieve your desired results. This is also the time to address any questions or fears you may have about the procedure, recovery, and expected outcomes.

Will I need to change my skincare routine after rhinoplasty?

Yes, it’s advisable to adjust your skincare routine after rhinoplasty to support healing and minimize irritation. You should avoid harsh exfoliants, active ingredients like retinoids or acids, and any products that could irritate the skin around your nose for several weeks post-surgery. Your surgeon will provide specific recommendations on when it’s safe to resume your regular skincare regimen and any products to avoid during the healing process.
